Review: Closet Core Nicks

This year has been a slooooowwww pattern buying year for me partly because I haven’t been sewing much, and partly because I already have sooooo many patterns in my stash, half of which I will probably never get around to sewing. I’m sure my wallet thanks me, or at least it did until I saw the newest pattern from Closet Core Patterns – Closet Core Nicks.

M8084 Livia McCalls – Pattern Review

FYI, Livia was part of McCalls Spring 2020 collection. I think I ordered it pretty soon after the release, but once it arrived neatly filed it away in my pattern stash, unopened, uncut and unused. I decided I wanted a new dress for my Maternity Shoot part 2, and this pattern sprung to mind. If my recollection served me well (which, with baby brain, I was almost afraid it wouldn’t), Livia had an elastic waistline, making it, in my view, a maternity-friendly pattern… or so I would hope.

CT Naomi – Pattern Review

I discovered the Naomi Shirt by Coffee and Thread Patterns at the beginning of 2021 and was super intrigued by the line drawings. The pattern retails for $12 bucks and comes in sizes 0-22. Naomi is drafted for a B/C cup and fits a bust of 30 inches up to 50.4 inches. The shirt has raglan sleeves which are incorporated into the yoke pieces, making for some pretty cool construction.

Cortney Top & Dress

In case you missed it, Cortney is an oversized top and dress drafted for woven fabrics. The pattern features a slightly dropped shoulder and comes with 2 sleeve options: a pleated sleeve and a set in sleeve with no gathers/pleating. Both the top and dress have a front placket closure and mandarin collar with 3 buttons, so go on and whip out that buttonhole foot again. The best part about this pattern, (other than the sleeves) is its size inclusivity. Cortney starts at a size 2 (bust of 31”) and goes up to size 30 (bust of 59”).

Rich Auntie – Review Iviye Pattern: Lani

The opinions I am about to share on this pattern are my own.

The Lani Gown is a flowy caftan with three lengths: tunic, midi and gown. I really wanted to sew up the gown, but my fabric would not allow for it. I had 3 yards of a 60” width fabric, and was able to cut out the midi length with minimal scraps. Although the pattern gives a size range from XS-4X i.e. bust 35”-60”, it is, in actuality a one-size-fits-most kinda pattern.

CnN Collab – Farrah Blouse

This year, I’ve actually been looking forward to the month of the bull b’cuz I’m a 2021 Chalk and Notch Collaborator… and you guessed it, May is my month to share! For those who are unfamiliar, The Collaboration, which spans the entire year, features a handful of sewists each month putting their spin on that month’s featured Chalk and Notch pattern.

Review: Giselle Dress

At the end of January, Eryn [the owner and pattern designer for Style Sew Me Patterns] released the Giselle Dress. Prior to this month, I ain’t never sewn one of her patterns, but from the minute I saw it, this dress started speaking to me in all kinda tongues!

Review: Gilbert Top

Today’s post is all the tea about the Gilbert Top by Helen’s Closet. TBH, I don’t have a lot of memade tops in my wardrobe… I really am to blame for that because I have a particular affinity to dresses. The resulting wardrobe gap has me feelin’ sticky so it’s time to fill in the blanks (at least in part). What better way to start than with the Gilbert Top?
